Marlies Bredel: Why do people have estate sales? Well, people ask me “Do you have to be dead in order to have an estate sale?” So I get that question asked a lot, and we say no. It could be any kind of situation—you want to travel around the world, if you want to transition, move with your family, whether you have murder situation, death situation. Really, we’ll handle it. Doesn’t really matter the background of the situation. What we look for is enough content to sell.
Interviewer: Now you did mention once before, and I always wanted to get more information on that, is having an estate sale in a home that somebody still lives in—if they have a partner that’s passed. Is that something that happens?
Marlies Bredel: A lot of estate sale companies prefer not to do an estate sale with the homeowners in the house. I’m pretty good at picking up on whether the person would be easy enough to work with. Because I understand financially sometimes people can’t leave their home until it’s sold.
